Le Château de Parthenay

At the end of the rocky promontory that carries the town stands the 13th century castle. The loop of the river surrounds it to the north and west; deep ditches cut into the granite isolate it on the other sides. The wall flanked by large round towers dominates the Saint-Jacques district. Ramparts designed to carry cannons reinforced it at the end of the Middle Ages.
